Loading Zone & Trade-Permit Finder
Pick your suburb and building and we will print you an honest loading docket: the realistic kerbside option, the Sutherland Shire Council permit answer, the best loading window and how we would run your move. No guesswork on the day.
Do you need a permit to load a removal truck here?
A standard household removal does not need a Council permit. We use the legal kerb or a marked loading zone and time the truck to the day, scouting the spot first where it is tight.
WHEN A SUTHERLAND SHIRE COUNCIL PERMIT DOES APPLY
- A skip bin or waste container left standing on the road or footpath — Sutherland Shire Council's Approval to Undertake Works on or Near Roads (Roads Act 1993, section 138)
- Hoarding or scaffolding standing on the footpath or road — the same Approval to Undertake Works on or Near Roads (Roads Act 1993, section 138)
- A crane, hoist or elevated work platform working from the road or footpath — Council approval to operate plant in a public place, plus a Transport for NSW Road Occupancy Licence if it affects a State road or sits within 100 metres of traffic lights
- Setting aside a signed length of kerb as a work zone for the day — a Council work zone or road occupancy approval, also under the Roads Act 1993
These approvals carry a fee and a lead time, so check the current cost and how far ahead to apply with Council before you book one. Source: Sutherland Shire Council (https://www.sutherlandshire.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-build/permits-for-work-in-public-spaces).
Loading by area type
Kerb: We load from the legal kerb or a marked loading zone and work to its time limit, using the building lift and padding the shared stairwell.
Weekday: Quietest mid-morning after the commuter rush, when the loading zones are freer and the lift is easier to book.
Summer weekend: The beachfront kerb runs to a time limit and fills early, so we start at first light and keep the loading window clear.
Book the building lift, scout the loading spot the day before, and start early so the truck is gone before the beach fills.
Kerb: We back the truck to the driveway or a quiet kerb and run a normal house carry.
Weekday: Any time outside the school run works; back to the driveway and go.
Summer weekend: Little changes on the quiet residential streets, so a weekend load is fine.
A standard house move; for a new Woolooware Bay apartment we book the building set-down with management first.
Kerb: The streets are narrow and often no-through, so we stage the truck on the widest safe stretch and carry the last run to the water side.
Weekday: Best mid-morning, when the narrow streets are clear of parked commuters and the carry path is open.
Summer weekend: Weekends are quiet on the points, but waterfront visitors can fill the kerb, so we scout the spot either way.
We scout the truck spot, plan the down-and-back carry, and bring the extra crew the slope and distance call for.
Kerb: Wide modern streets and a double garage, so the truck parks easily at the kerb or in the driveway.
Weekday: Easy any weekday, with wide streets and a driveway to work from.
Summer weekend: We time the load around busy beach days, when the single estate entry and the Wanda parking get busy.
A straightforward load; we just time the run around peak beach traffic at the estate entry.
Kerb: There is usually room to park at the home, so the kerb is rarely the problem here.
Weekday: Best on a weekday morning, before the park road carries weekend day-trippers and the drive slows.
Summer weekend: Summer weekends pack the Royal National Park road, so we run early or pick a weekday to keep the long drive moving.
Everything comes in by the long park road via Audley and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, so we plan that run and its timing, not the parking. The ferry is foot passengers only.
Kerb: The lanes are narrow and dead-end, so we check the street can take a pantech and use a smaller truck where it cannot.
Weekday: A weekday morning is best, with the park drive quiet and the narrow lanes clear.
Summer weekend: Weekend park traffic makes the one road in slow, so we plan an early or weekday run.
We confirm the access before the day, plan around the one road and the slow park drive, and shuttle the last leg if a lane is too tight.
Kerb: Quiet streets with driveways make kerbside loading easy.
Weekday: Mid-morning is best, after the Captain Cook Drive commuter flow eases.
Summer weekend: Captain Cook Drive carries beach and visitor traffic on warm weekends, so we time the single run to miss the worst of it.
The single road in and out is the plan, so we time the run, stage the truck once, and keep the day to schedule.
